Originally, I was planning to call this app Multinota — for it to have some kind of a logical relation to Duolingo: I’m learning a lot from it, and I wanted to build on that idea that this app will help me learn a new language too. The music language. Then the name got changed to “La Nota” — to feel like something a bit special with that “la”. (I don’t know Spanish though…) And finally I was seeing a funny name in it: La La Nota. You get it.

Basically (and this app IS basic), in this app you hear a piano sound and you try to match it by ear on the staff. The staff is divided into treble and bass clefs. If you would like to see the improvement of that system, let me know! My theory (which has worked great so far forever…) is that by hearing and seeing the same stuff (randomly) over and over again, the brain tends to remember it. It gets wired. Especially, if the action feels rewarding, just a bit. And hopefully, as all of the users of this app progress in their skill, every one of them would be able to distinguish sounds around us and tell, which sound is of what musical pitch.

You tap and drag. The tap triggers the sound, and then you have to match it without releasing the finger. Because random sounds can have a wide range which is hard to grab at first, there’s a limiting feature which is accessed through those three dots on the top of the screen.
